Meet Our Urban Farmer, Beekeeper

William (Bill) is an urban farmer and beekeeper whose work is inspired by the desire to educate others on environmental stewardship.  Bill started out learning about growing food in a community garden in 2016.  From there, he expanded to his parent’s backyard, grandparent’s backyard, and also started an apiary in 2018.  In 2020, he managed an urban farm and now is the owner of Rooted Faith Farm.  Through his journey, he has done extensive research about the importance of nurturing the land and its resources for the generations to come.  He has learned that environmental stewardship is the key to a healthy ecosystem and healthy communities.

Bill knows the importance of community and education.  He is the president of the South Fulton Young Farmers Program and also on the advisory board for the FFA chapter at Creekside High School.  He also has done some work with various schools throughout the community and also teaches homeschool families about pollinators.  He also started an apiary in Fulton County. Through his farm and these various groups and programs in South Fulton, Bill has been able to teach a wide age range of people about different ways to be sustainable and how to help preserve nature.

Bill feels that it is imperative to educate youth at a young age to instill knowledge about nature so that it will come secondhand.  The more people are aware of the impact we have on nature and how we are connected to it, the better chances we have of addressing issues such as food access, social equity, and global warming.  Recently, he has focused more on honeybee and pollination education.  He has seen an uptrend in kids and adults wanting to learn about bees.  He hopes through his education more people will be more aware of just how important pollinators are to our food system and also lessen fear when it comes to honeybees.
